Walk and Bike More
Bicycling and walking are important for individual as well as community well-being. They have the potential to reduce traffic congestion, contribute to improved air quality, create a greater sense of community, and improve public health. Trails, bikeway networks and inviting streets and sidewalks can also provide economic benefits.
When people walk and bicycle more, they create more opportunities for chance meetings. By traveling at a slower pace, they create more “eyes on the street.” Increasing people's physical activity can have beneficial effects on public health in general, especially in the case of chronic diseases, including obesity, heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
